Cushing's syndrome
Cushing’s syndrome is also known as a “hypercortisolism”. It is defined as a hormonal disorder. This hormonal disorder is caused by prolonged exposure of the body’s tissue to high level of the hormone cortisol.
Causes of Cushing’s Syndrome
The main cause of Cushing’s syndrome is body’s tissues that are exposed to excessive levels of cortisol.
Some people take glucocorticoids hormones like rheumatoid arthritis and prednisone for asthma; this is also the reason of Cushing’s syndrome. Overproduction of cortisol is another factor that causes Cushing’s syndrome.
Signs and Symptoms
The symptoms of Cushing’s syndrome includes rapid weight gain, excess sweating, red or purple striae on the arms, legs or breast, various psychological disturbances , depression ,panick attacks .
Treatment for Cushing’s syndrome
The main goal of treatment is to restore the normal balance of hormones .The treatment for Cushing’s syndrome includes drugs, radiation treatment, and surgery. Tumor is removed by surgery .Hormonal supplements are usually given before surgery. Radiation treatment is also helpful.
Prevention
If you are taking corticosteroid medications then take precautions.
