Addison’s disease
Addison’s disease can e described as a hormonal disorder that cause weight loss, weak ness, low blood pressure, darkening of the skin. This disease can be occurs in all age groups.
Causes of Addison’s disease -
The main cause of Addison’s Disease is an inadequate production of hormone ( Cortisol) ,which is produced by adrenal glands, so sometimes it is known as chronic adrenal insufficiency . Adrenal gland is related to a class of hormone that is called glucocorticoids .Almost every organ and tissue of the body is affected by glucocorticoids. The main function of Cortisol is to maintain blood pressure, cardiovascular function, makes slow the inflammatory response of the immune system, make balance of the insulin and helps to control the metabolism of proteins, fats and carbohydrates. Cortisol is very important for our body so it should be necessary that the balance amount of cortisol is produced by adrenal gland.
The problem may be occurring due to a disorder of adrenal glands itself.
Signs and Symptoms -
The symptoms of Addison’s disease is given below -
1) Weight loss
2) loss of appetite
3) Vomiting
4) Low blood pressure
5) Darkening of your body part
6) Muscle Weakness
7) Depression and irritation
8) Sudden penetrating pain ( in the lower back , abdomen and legs )
9) Dehydration
Treatment for Addison’s Disease -
Treatment of Addison’s Disease includes the replacement and substitution of the hormones that are not make by adrenal glands. Hydrocortisone tablets are used for orally replacement of cortisol. Fludrocortisone is used to replaces aldosterone ,that controls the amount of sodium and potassium of our body which are needed to controls the blood pressure .
