Otitis
INFORMATION ON OTITIS :-
Otitis can be defied as an inflammation of outer ear or internal ear. This may results the colds, breathing problems, respiratory problem and sore throat. Theses can be viral or bacterial infections. Ear infection is most common disease in children. Otitis can be classified in fallowing way -
1) Acute Otitis media – It is an infection that produces pus.
2) Otitis media with effusion – presence of fluid in middle ear space (without any symptoms of acute infection).
3) Chronic Otitis – It occurs when the infection persist for more then two weeks.
4) Adhesive Otitis media
CAUSES OF OTITIS:-
The main causes of Otitis are Streptococcus pneumoniae and Haemophilus influenzae. Children are mostly affected then adults.
Otitis can be caused by some allergic reason, infection, blockage of the Eustachian tube, nutritional deficiency. The most common allergic things are cigarette smoke, house dust, fungi, sulfur dioxide, and volatile organic (pesticides and herbicides). Second reason is infection. This infection may be either viral infection or bacterial infection. Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae and moraxella catarrhalis are some common bacteria that causes Otitis. Blockage of the Eustachian tube can results the swollen tonsils. Nutritional deficiency is also a reason of Otitis such as deficiency of vitamin A, iron, Zink.
SYMPTOMS OF OTITIS:--
Fallowing are the symptoms of Otitis -
1) Earache
2) Fever
3) Chills
4) Hearing loss
5) Drainage from the ear
6) Irritability
7) Vomiting
8) Diarrhea
9) Nausea
10) Illness
TREATMENT OF OTITIS:-
Antibiotics are preferable in the treatment of Otitis. Antibiotic is a drug that kills bacteria. If the patient have feel some pain then the physician may recommend pain reliever. Nasopharyngeal decongestant therapy is also helpful in the treatment of Otitis.
