Zollinger Ellison Syndrome
INFORMATION ON ZOLLINGER-ELLISON SYNDROME:-
Zollinger-Ellison syndrome is rare disorder that causes tumors one or more than one in pancreas or upper part of the small intestine/duodenum. Due this tumor large amount of hormone gastrine is produced and leads to the excess production of acid in stomach.
CAUSES OF ZOLLINGER-ELLISON SYNDROME:-
1. Tumors in pancreas and duodenum.
2. Excess production of acid.
3. Peptic ulcers.
SYMPTOMS OF ZOLLINGER-ELLISON SYNDROME:-
1. Diarrhea.
2. Fatigue.
3. vomiting
4. Nausea.
5. Weight loss.
6. Blood in stool.
7. Pain in upper abdomen.
8. Heartburn.
DIAGNOSIS OF ZOLLINGER-ELLISON SYNDROME:-
Clinically Zollinger-Ellison syndrome can be detected by:-
1. Barium X-ay.
2. Upper endoscopy.
3. CT scan.
4. MRI.
5. Ultrasound.
6. Nuclear scan.
PREVENTION FROM ZOLLINGER-ELLISON SYNDROME:-
Prevention from Zollinger –Ellison syndrome can be achieved by:-
1. Medicinal treatment.
2. Operational treatment.
MEDICINAL TREATMENT OF ZOLLINGER-ELLISON SYNDROME:-
The medicinal treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome includes intake of drugs like ranitidine, famotidine, nizatidine which are acid blockers in nature and has tendency to limit excess development of acid in stomach.
Proton pump inhibitors are most power full medicines for reducing acid action by blocking it. Examples of proton pump inhibitor are omeprazole, pantoprazole and rabeprazole.
OPERATIONAL TREATMENT OF ZOLLINGER-ELLISON SYNDROME:-
Zollinger-Ellison syndrome is treated surgically in order to:-
Stop bleeding of ulcer.
Remove obstruction caused by ulcer.
Closing up of hole made by ulcer.
