Heartburn

INFORMATION ON HEARTBURN:-

Heartburn may be defined as the burning sensation with warmth located in the chest or high in the epigsatrium with effect in neck and some times in arms.


CAUSES OF HEARTBURN:-

1. By reflux of gastric acid and intestinal contents back to esophagus.
2. Mucosal erosion.
3. Certain beverages and food items.
4. Chocolate.
5. Smoking.
6. Excessive drinking of alcohol.
7. Prolonged use of medicines.

SYMPTOMS OF HEARTBURN:-

1. Burning sensation.
2. Regurgitation.
3. Chest pain.


DIAGNOSIS OF HEARTBURN:-

Clinically heartburn can be diagnosed by:-
1. Biopsy.
2. Ambulatory pH monitoring.
3. Upper gastrointestinal series.
4. Manometry.
5. Endoscopy.

PREVENTION FROM HEARTBURN:-

Heartburn can be prevented by consuming drugs like antacids, proton pump inhibitors and H2 receptor antagonist.

Beside all these medicine a subject must restrict his/her diet and try to avoid oily, spicy food which can reform all the symptoms of heartburn.
