Cholangitis

INFORMATION ON CHOLANGITIS:-

Cholangitis is a type of bacterial infection which result infection in biliary tree most commonly from gallstone.
This disease also associated with neoplasm.

CAUSES OF CHOLANGITIS:-

Following are the causes of cholangitis:
1. Strictures or stenosis
2. Endoscopic manipulation of the CBD
3. Choledochocele
4. Sclerosing cholangitis.
5. AIDS cholangiopathy.
6. Pancreatic cancer.
7. Choledocholithiasis is the most common cause of acute cholangitis.

SYNOMS OF CHOLANGITIS:-

1. Biliary tract obstruction.
2. Acute renal failure.
3. E coli.

SYMPTOMS OF CHOLANGITIS:-

1. Upper right side abdominal pain.
2. Biliary colic.
3. Fever.
4. Nausea.
5. Jaundice.
6. Itching skin.
7. Pale stool.
8. Pain under right shoulder blade.

DIAGNOSIS OF CHOLANGITIS:-

1. Ultrasound examination.
2. Blood test.
3. ERCP.
4. Cholecystogram.

PREVENTION OF CHOLANGITIS:-

There are two methods available for prevention of cholangitis:-
1. Medicinal treatment.
2. Operational treatment.


MEDICINAL TREATMENT OF CHOLANGITIS:-

The medicinal treatment of cholangitis includes intake analgesic medication like aspirin, paracetamol etc. treatment also include intake of antibiotics.

Doctors some time also suggest bed rest with intake of bed rest.

OPERATIONAL TREATMENT OF CHOLANGITIS:-

The operational treatment includes removal of gall bladder, Laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Endoscopic biliary drainage & decomposition have usually replaced surgery as initial treatment of cholangitis.
