Vitiligo

DEFINITION

Vitiligo is a skin disorder in which there is loss of pigment from different part of skin resulting in uneven white patches with normal skin touch.


SYMPTOMS

Symptoms can appear when it is in family. It arises sudden or gradual on flat touch region of skin with full pigment loss.

CAUSES

This disorder can appear at any age and can seen in dark complexion people because of the contrast. The reason of this disorder is not known till now. The injury appear as flat depigmented with dark boarder. The corner are sharply defined but not regular. The area on which this condition appears are face, elbow, hands, knees and feet.


TREATMENT

Vitiligo is not easy to cure.Pre-trearment options includes exposure to excessive ultraviolet light.
Oral medicines can be given like Trisoralren and Cortisosteroid cream can be applied. Grafting of the skin or skin can be detached from the normal areas and placed into region of pigment loss. Skin pigment can be grown in the laboratory and used to treat areas of vitiligo.
