Skin Cancer
DEFINITION
Skin cancer is the uncontrolled growth of skin cells. If it is not controlled, these cancer cells can spread from the skin into other tissues and organs of body.
There are different kinds of skin cancer. The most common skin cancer is Basal cell carncinoma Melanoma is less common, but more dangerous.
SYMPTOMS
Skin cancers can have many different appearances. It can be small, shiny, or scaly and rough, firm and red, bleeding, or have other features. Therefore, when anything suspicious should be checked by a physician.
There is no symmetry like one half of the abnormal skin area is different than the other half.The borders are irregular and the color varies from one area to another with different colors like tan, black, brown sometimes it is white,red,blue.
CAUSES
The outermost layer of skin, the epidermis, is made up of different types of cells. Skin cancers are categorized by the types of epidermal cells involved as Basal cell carcinoma is the most common type of skin cancer which develops from abnormal growth of the cells. Melanoma is rare but leads to death.
Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the U.S. It’s more often with light-colored skin, hair and eyes. Mostly skin cancers occur on areas of the skin that are regularly exposed to sunlight.
TREATMENT
Different kinds of skin cancer require different treatment approaches as Basal cell carcinoma,Squamous cell carcinoma ,Melanoma.
It depends on a number of factors, including the type of cancer the person have and how quickly it can be diagnosed.
Any suspicious mole, sore, or skin growth must be checked by a doctor immediately. If any changes in a mole or sudden growth of a skin lesion seriously.
Sun exposure should be minimize in the best way to prevent skin damage, Protect your skin from the sun if it is possible-- wear protective clothes such as hats, long-sleeved shirts, long skirts, or pants.
