Folliculitis
DEFINITION
Folliculitis is irritation of one or more hair follicles. This type of condition may occur wherever on the skin.
SYMPTOMS
The symptoms of Folliculitis are reddened of skin area, Pimples are found around the hair follicle. It occurs on neck axilla and may present as genital lesions and sometime the skin itches.
CAUSES
Folliculitis begins when hair follicles are damaged by rubbing from clothing, blockage of the follicle, or shaving. In most the cases of this condition, the damaged follicles are then infected with the bacteria staphylococcus.
Barber's itch is also a staph infection of the hair follicles in the beard region of the face, usually the upper part of the lip. Shaving increases the condition. Pseudofolliculitis barbae is a problem occurring mainly in black men. If the hair of beard is curly and cut to short ,It may curve back into the skin and cause irritation.
TREATMENT
There are some prevention to avoid further damages to the hair follicles and infection, such as rubbing of the clothes should be minimized, Use new blade when shaving and keep the area clean.
This type of infection can be controlled by Mupirocin, (anti-biotic), Dicloxacillin (oral antibiotics)
