PERICORONITIS

INFORMATION ON PERICORONITIS:-

Pericoronitis can be defined as the dental disorder in which the gum tissue around the molar teeth becomes swollen and infected.

CAUSES OF PERICORONITIS:-

The events which are responsible for the development of pericoronitis are:-

1. Eruption of molar teeth.
2. Attack of bacteria.
3. Deposition of plaque or food beneath gums.

SYMPTOMS OF PERICORONITIS:-

1. Pain.
2. Infection.
3. Swelling in the gum tissue.
4. Bad taste in the mouth.
5. Swelling of the lymph nodes in the neck .
6. Difficulty opening the mouth.

DIAGNOSIS OF OF PERICORONITIS:-

Pericoronitis may be clinically detected as:-

1. Examination of wisdom teeth.
2. X-ray.

TREATMENT OF PERICORONITIS:-

Pricoronitis may be treated by rinsing mouth with mixture of warm water and salt. It should also be noticed that the gum flap has no food trapped under it.
If infection exsists for long time then antibiotics can be prescribed.
If the pain and inflammation are severe, then oral surgery have to be performed and wisdom tooth should be removed if necessary.
