CLEFT LIP AND CLEFT PALATE

INFORMATION ON CLEFT LIP AND CLEFT PALATE:-

Cleft lip and cleft palate are the oral and facial malformation which occurs during pregnancy. Cleft lip and cleft palate results when there is not enough tissue left in mouth and lip and the tissues which are present loses their ability to join.
Cleft lip is the physical splitting of upper lips which appears as the gap in the skin of lip.
Cleft palate is a split or opening in the roof of the mouth.
Cleft lip and cleft palate can occur on one or both sides of the mouth.

CAUSES OF CLEFT LIP AND CLEFT PALATE:-

The main factors which leads to the development of cleft lip and cleft pallet are:-

1. Genetic disorderness.
2. Sensitivity to envoirment.
3. Exposure to virus.
4. Exposure to chemicals.
5. Side effect of certain medicines.

PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH CLEFT LIP AND CLEFT PALATE:-

TREATMENT OF CLEFT LIP AND CLEFT PALATE:-

A cleft lip generally requires one or two surgical process depending on the extent of the repair needed. The initial surgery is usually performed by the time a baby is 3 months old. cleft palate generally requires multiple surgeries when the subject is over 18 years.
