As the person’s age passes, their skin begins to loosen its elasticity. As a result of this the facial skin loosens and wrinkles, and the muscles of the neck become weaken as well. Such type of problems can be solved by facelift, or rhytidectomy in which the facial skin and underlying muscles are lifted up to tighten and smoothen the skin of the face and neck.
Procedure
During the facelift procedure, excess fat is removed. An incision is made in the area of the temple hair, just above and in front of the ear which is then extended downward in front of the ear. The skin is then carefully separated by the underlying muscles of the face. The extra fat is then removed and the muscles are tighten. Incisions are closed with fine sutures. The surgery duration is generally from two to four hours depending upon the surgery extent.
Side effects of Facelift
Some of the complications and side effects after facial surgery includes sickness, Neurological dysfunction, hair loss around incision site. The most common side effect which is generally observed is swelling and bruising in face lift surgery.
A Haematoma in which bleeding starts due to formation of clots beneath the skin, which also causes pain and swelling can also occur.
Facial nerves may also get damage which causes muscles weakness in the face.
