INFORMATION ON HAEMOPHILUS INFLUENZA
Haemophilus influenza also known as Bacillus influenza is common bacteria that cause a wide variety of infections in children. Cause is the most serious diseases, but can be effectively prevented by immunization. Other types of haemophilus influenza, especially non-typable haemophilus influenza, remain very common. Haemophilus influenza causes a variety of diseases including meningitis, bacteremia, and pneumonia . More than half of the cases of haemophilus influenza infection in the United States involve bacterial meningitis.

CAUSES OF HAEMOPHILUS INFLUENZA
Haemophilus influenza disease is caused by Haemophilus influenza serotype b, a bacterium a family of bacteria all of which can cause diseases in people. Haemophilus influenza was one of the two most common causes of otitis media, sinus infections, and bronchitis. Haemophilus influenza can causes meningitis, and a frequent culprit in cases of pneumonia, septic arthritis, cellulitis, and pericarditis. One of the most dangerous results of Haemophilus influenza infection was epiglottitis, an infection of the flap at the top of the windpipe that could kill a child by blocking air to the lungs.

SYMPTOMS OF HAEMOPHILUS INFLUENZA
Symptoms of Haemophilus Influenza are:
1. Unusual irritability.
2. Difficulty sleeping or staying asleep.
3. Tugging or pulling at one or both ears.
4. Fever.
5. Fluid draining from ear.
6. Loss of balance.
7. Hearing difficulties, ear pain.
8. Nausea and vomiting.
9. Redness and swelling.
10. Drainage from one eye or both eyes.
11. Burning of the eyes.
12. Photophobia.

DIAGNOSIS OF HAEMOPHILUS INFLUENZA
Physician may diagnose the illness based on clinical examination and a medical history. In some case a culture of fluid from the eye, ear, blood, or spinal fluid.

Other diagnostic tests may include:
1. Chest or neck x-ray.
2. Blood tests.

TREATMENT OF HAEMOPHILUS INFLUENZA
These infections are treated with antibiotics. Most of the time the antibiotics are given in tablet or liquid form. For serious infections, IV antibiotics may be needed. The Hib vaccine can prevent most serious cases of H flu disease. Those in close contact with people with serious H flu disease should receive preventive antibiotics.
