Asthma

INFORMATION ON ASTHMA
Asthma is the most common disease of respiratory system. Asthma can be defined as a inflammation of lungs and bronchial tubes. Asthma can start in any age. Periodic attacks of wheezing, shortness of breath. Chest tightness and coughing are some signs of Asthma.

There is various type of asthma.
1 Elergic asthma - Cat hair & saliva, House dust mites, Cat hair & saliva, Cockroach particles, Mold or yeast spores.
2 Non Elergic asthma – Gas, wood, dust, coal ,natural gases, fumes, smog, viral respiratory infection.
3 Mixed Asthma – when a person have both type of asthma ( elergic plus nonelergic asthma)

CAUSES OF ASTHMA
Inflammation of airways is the main cause of Asthma. In this disease of respiratory system lining of air passages swells and the mussels of the bronchial tree become tight, airflow reduction and mucus production is increased. Most people have periodic asthma attacks. In 7-10 % of children and 3-5 % of adults have asthma problem.

4. Viral respiratory infections.

7. Certain environmental pollutants.

SYMPTOMS OF ASTHMA
The signs and symptoms are given below-

1. Wheezing –usually starts suddenly.
2. Cough.
3. Difficulty in taking breathes.
4. Intercostal retractions.
5. In severe condition, bluish color of lips and face.
6. Rapid pulse.
7. Chest pain.
8. Tightness in the chest.
9. Nasal flaring.

TREATMENT OF ASTHMA
The medications should be taken daily .It maintains the control of persistent asthma. In quick relief treatment the medication should be taken to achieve prompt reversal of an acute asthma attack. Asthma is not fully cured only it can be controlled with proper treatment. Environmental control is the main step of asthma treatment. Proper house cleaning, wash your bedding use the air conditioner, keep your house with low humidity all these are necessary for environment control. The second step is monitor lung function, next step is, take proper medications. Anti-inflammatory is major medications that control the asthma.
