Vasculitis is disease of blood vessels which includes lots of diseases related to blood vessels of any size. Vasculitis can be possible in the aorta, the largest blood vessels and capillaries, the smallest blood vessels and arterioles or venules. In Vasculitis disease, blood vessels get inflamed or infected and result is swelling, pain and redness at walls of blood vessels.
Causes & Symptoms :
Severe condition of the Vasculitis disease is possible in any blood vessels of any organ so the symptoms may differ according to the infected organs or tissues. A person who has vasculitis disease may feel pain in joints and muscles, feverish and bad feeling in any atmosphere. If blood vessels of skin are affected by vasculitis then symptoms may be like red dots on skin or redness, pain in fingers or toes etc. If blood vessels of Brain are affected by vasculitis then symptoms may be strokes and headaches. Vasculitis in eye can affect retina and vasculitis in lungs may result shortness of breath. In short we can say due to the vasculitis following diseases may occur:
• Lymphoma
• Rheumatoid arthritis
• Scleroderma
• Temporal arteritis
• Cryoglobulinemia
• Tumors
• Leukemia
Treatment :
Treatment of vasculitis may be possible after checking general health, mild or extent situation of the vasculitis and your past reaction with drugs etc. In many cases vasculitis doesn't require medication. Cytotoxic drugs are generally used to kill the blood vessels those have vasculitis. Prednisone and prednisolone may be used if you don't have any reaction with these drugs.
