Stroke
Our Brain requires enough oxygen rich blood to work properly and then it keeps tract on all body organs. Carotid arteries and basilar artery supplies nutritious blood to the brain. After an interruption in blood supply or dysfunction in blood arteries a Stroke may occurs. Stroke is also known as "brain attack".
There are 2 major type of Stroke.
Ischemic Stroke:
When the artery that supplies nutritious and oxy blood to the brain gets blocked, an ischemic stroke may occur. Blockage in the artery may be possible by any of the following reason. First, when the inner wall of artery get thick due to deposition on wall and second, when a blood clot occur or in thrombosis condition. In Ischemic Stroke situation arteries are unable in both, first, to supply oxy blood to the brain and get carbon dioxide and cellular waste from the brain. In this case the cells of brain may die.
Hemorrhagic stroke:
Hemorrhagic stroke occur when blood vessel get burst or ruptured. Hemorrhagic stroke further divided into types, Intracerebral Hemorrhage and Subarachnoid Hemorrhage. In Intracerebral Hemorrhage, the blood vessels bursts in cerebrum means within the brain and in this condition blood will start leaking. The main cause for intracerebral hemorrhage is hypertension. On the other hand, the Subarachnoid Hemorrhage is a condition in which blood vessels ruptures outside the brain and blood flows outside the brain. Subarachnoid Hemorrhage may be happen due to cerebral aneurysms means disorders of the arteries.
Treatment :
There a lot of drugs are available to handle risk factors of Strokes. Aspirin is an anti-platelet drug that reduces the possibilities of blood clotting. Cholesterol-control drugs maintain the Cholesterol level. For reducing clotting factors in our blood anti-coagulant drugs are available. In Ischemic Stroke situation drugs are used to break clot into small pieces and sometimes surgeons prefer surgery.
