Peripheral Arterial Disease or PAD

Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) happens due to problems in blood circulation. When the arteries that supply pure blood to limbs becomes blocked or partially blocked, peripheral arterial disease occurs. Blockage in arteries may be possible because of plaque deposition on walls of arteries so that arteries becomes thick and hard. Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is very similar to Coronary artery disease (CAD) but one factor makes them differ from each other. Coronary artery disease (CAD) happens in coronary arteries, those supplies blood from heart but peripheral arterial disease happen in arteries related to kidneys and legs. After peripheral arterial disease arteries are unable to supply enough blood to the destination and blood pressure occurs.

Causes and Symptoms:

The main cause of Peripheral arterial disease is atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis is a disease in which fatty deposition occur on walls of artery. In peripheral arterial disease, a patient feels pain and irritation in his legs. The position of pain is depending on location of artery where it becomes narrow. Change in color of lags, severe pain in whole leg even nails also, hair loss on legs etc. are some symptoms of severe condition of Peripheral arterial disease.

Treatment:

By changing our life style we can control peripheral arterial disease in better ways. As we know that the high cholesterol level is the main reason for this atherosclerosis deposition. So, we should change our diet chart, always eat healthy food, avoid food full of fats and fast foods etc. Daily exercise also helps to cure this disease and to get stronger blood circulatory system.

When situation becomes complex then we have last option that is peripheral arterial bypass surgery. In one type of surgery, to manage the peripheral arterial disease, surgeons consider peripheral arterial bypass grafting. By this surgery, surgeons place another short piece of blood artery around blocked peripheral artery so those blood flows through new blood artery in place of old one. Now a day, laser beam surgery also in use but it is used when standard treatments have no effects.
