The largest artery in our body is known as aorta that supplies pure blood from heart to our all body organs. Sometimes blood vessels get inflammed and due to this aorta and its branches becomes damage, condition is a vascular disease and called as Takayasu's arteritis. Therefore we can say that Takayasu's arteritis is an uncommon form of vasculitis in which blood vessels get inflammed. Many times blood vessels get also blocked due to inflammation.
Causes of Takayasu's arteritis:
Takayasu's arteritis generally happens in women than men specially in asian women but it may affect children. The actual causes are unknown.
Symptoms of Takayasu's arteritis
According to Symptoms we can divide Takayasu's arteritis into 2 categories.
First, systemic stage in which symptoms may found due to inflammation of aorta like Fever, fatigue, weight loss, Arthralgia and non-specific pains, Tenderness overlying the affected arteries.
Second, occlusive stage in which symptoms depends on symptoms of first stage like headaches, back pains, angina, dyspnoea etc.
Treatment of Takayasu's arteritis:
Treatment of Takayasu's arteritis at first stage is possible by drugs like Methotrexate, Azathioprine, Cyclophosphamide etc. As we know that sometimes vessels get blocked due to inflammation so in that condition blood flow becomes slow in arteries. To increase blood flow surgical procedures are required.
• Angioplasty with stenting
• Vascular bypass procedures
• Aortic valve replacement
