Giant cell arteritis is a vascular disease in which lining of arteries get inflamed. Generally Giant cell arteritis happens in arteries of neck, upper body and arms that is why giant cell arteritis is sometimes called temporal arteritis or cranial arteritis. Giant cell arteritis is also known as granulomatous arteritis. There are greatest risk of happening giant cell arteritis in old age. Certain markers in blood cells called HLA antigens are found more commonly in giant cell arteritis patients than the unaffected population, which is a clue to the genetic link.
Symptoms of Giant Cell Arteritis:
- vision activity decreased and
- sometimes double vision
- Pains in jaws while chewing
- Pain and stiffness in your neck, arms or hips
- head pain and tenderness
- In some cases, Sudden, permanent loss of vision in one eye.
- Unintended weight loss.
- Sometimes fever may be noticeable
- Muscle aches that is why feeling lethargy.
- excessive sweating

Exercise plays very important role
in treatment of
giant cell arteritis. Exercise not only relieves stiffness, pains and fatigue but also improves bone and muscle strength. So everyone should create exercise schedule. It is important for a person with giant cell arteritis to remove stress-inducing events from his life because stress can aggravate arthritis.
Treatment for
giant cell arteritis includes high doses of a corticosteroid drug for example prednisone. Proper balanced diet is also important thing if you want to avoid
Giant Cell Arteritis. Flaxseed, soybeans, soybean oil, rapeseed (canola) oil, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, and cold water fish, are also good additions to the diet.
