Cardiomyopathy
Cardiomyopathy is also a heart disease related to disorders in heart muscles so that they are unable to work properly and becomes weak and inflamed. Coronary artery disease, Valvular heart disease and heart failure etc. are some main causes of Cardiomyopathy.
Cardiomyopathy can be classified into three major types according to muscle problems.
Dilated Cardiomyopathy: In dilated cardiomyopathy heart muscles and heart becomes weak and chambers of heart get enlarged or dilated. Ventricles get more enlargement than atriums. Due to Dilated Cardiomyopathy the blood pumping power of heart becomes slow and the mitral and tricuspid valves have problem in closing properly. At this time an abnormal sound may be heard from the heart's valves.
Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy: In hypertrophic cardiomyopathy heart muscles itself get thickness and enlargement. Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is less found than dilated cardiomyopathy but not rarely found. One another form of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy may be possible in which the wall between to ventricles becomes thicker and enlarged.
Restrictive Cardiomyopathy: Restrictive Cardiomyopathy is least common than other two, Dilated Cardiomyopathy and Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. In Restrictive Cardiomyopathy the heart muscle becomes rigid.
Drugs and medication depends on type of Cardiomyopathy and extent of symptoms. In case of Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy surgery may be done by surgeons. Amiodarone, Warfarin, propranolol, verapamil are some well known drugs for Cardiomyopathy. Along with these medications some useful treatments should be followed like avoid smoking and drinking and try walking, cycling in daily habits.
