Atheroma

Atheroma is one of the vascular disease in which walls of arteries becomes thick due to abnomal accumulation of white blood cells. Atheroma happens only in arteries not in veins. Generally atheroma found in childhood means before age 10 and then these cells progresses. The collection of this type of cells found between endothelium lining and smooth muscle wall.

Collectively, the process of atheroma development within an individual is known as aterogenesis and result of disease is called as atherosclerosis. Atheroma is also known as “plaque”.


Causes of Atheroma :

  • High blood pressure may lead to Atheroma
  • Cigarette smoking is also a causative factor.
  • Physical inactivity
  • Obesity is also a main cause of Atheroma
  • Diet of high fats

Symptoms of Atheroma :

  • angina pectoris
  • Minor heart attacks (cardiac arrest)
  • strokes

Treatment of Atheroma :


It better to prevent yourself from Atheroma than treat Atheroma. So we should avoid cigarette smoking, drinking, fats etc. There are various drugs available to treat Atheroma.
