INFORMATION ON WILMS TUMOR
Wilms tumor is a neoplasm of the kidneys that typically occurs in children. Wilms tumor (WT) is also known as nephroblastoma.
CAUSES OF WILMS TUMOR
Wilms' Tumor is a most common tumor in the abdomen in the children. The exact cause of tumor is unknown. Mostly this is caused by certain birth defects such as absence of the iris, urinary tract abnormalities and hemihypertrophy.It can also be caused because of some genetic reason. The tumor may become quite large. It may spread to other body tissues such as lungs.
SYMPTOMS OF WILMS TUMOR
Symptoms are given below -
1) General discomfort or uneasiness (malaise)
2) Blood pressure, high
3) Nausea
4) Fever
5) Swelling in the abdomen
6) Blood in the urine
7) Vomiting
8) Constipation
9) Loss of appetite
10) Abdominal pain
11) Increased growth on only one side of the body (hemihypertrophy)
TREATMENT OF WILMS TUMOR
The treatment of Wilms' Tumor or Nephroblastoma is done by clinical staging of the tumor. Surgical removal of the tumor is also a treatment option. if the tumor has spread to other areas such as abdominal organs, Regional lymph nodes and other tissue then surgical removal of these areas are the best option. Depending on the stage of the tumor, chemotherapy and Radiation therapy will be done after surgery.
